Racist Tory councillor resigns after warning that ‘young Black males’ are ‘flooding’ the UK
A former Conservative councillor called Pauline Giles has just resigned from the party following backlash after suggesting that Britain cannot sustain the “volume of young Black males” she claimed was “flooding” the country and “jeopardising” safety.
Critics have described her attitude as “frowsy” - a Caribbean term meaning dirty, off-key or just plain low vibrational. Anyway: Giles hasn’t left politics…! She’ll represent constituents as an independent candidate, so it’s best to sleep with one eye open.
Dr Ola Osman becomes youngest Black female assistant professor in the University of Cambridge’s history
Dr Ola joined the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) in September, just a year after completing her PhD.
Just 0.3% of professors at Cambridge are Black. The 29-year-old, who was born in Sudan, hopes her perspective as an Assistant Professor will open doors for others. “Toni Morrison said that the function of freedom is to free someone else,” she says.
Catholic priest admits sending racist messages in neo-Nazi chat - but seems to keep job
Father Mark Rowles, a Catholic priest who posed as a teenager and joined neo-Nazi chatrooms to talk about shooting Black people, has been sentenced to a 12-month community order. Despite his conviction, the 57-year-old appears to have kept his job…!
Police probe suspected arson after baby and three children rescued from fire at asylum seekers’ housing

Two men have been arrested following a fire at a building housing people applying for international protection in Drogheda, County Louth. The blaze broke out on 31 October, with emergency services called to the scene shortly after 8 pm.
