The stories shaping Black Britain.
Black Current News is an independent news platform reporting on the politics, culture and social issues shaping Black life in Britain.
We cover the stories that matter. From policy and power to culture, community and protest. Our journalism centres Black British experiences while connecting them to wider conversations across the UK and the global diaspora.
Founded by multi-award-winning journalist Nadine White, Black Current News combines original reporting, analysis and cultural commentary with a long view of history.
Our work aims not only to inform readers in the present, but also to document and preserve the record for the future.
Why Black Current News exists
Too often, stories affecting Black communities are ignored, misunderstood or reported without the necessary context.
Black Current News exists to change that.
Our mission is simple:
Report with rigour
Add context where it’s missing
Tell the full story, not just the headline
Archive the stories shaping Black Britain today
Because journalism should not just follow the news cycle. It should reflect people’s lives and record the moment properly.

Who runs Black Current News?
Black Current News is led by Nadine White, an award-winning journalist, filmmaker and cultural archivist.
Nadine made history as Britain’s first Race Correspondent at The Independent, where her reporting helped shape national conversations on inequality, justice and representation.
Her investigations have exposed racism within major institutions, sparked debate in the UK Parliament and highlighted the experiences of communities often overlooked in mainstream reporting.
Her work has been recognised by the British Journalism Awards, Amnesty International Media Awards and the Paul Foot Awards, where she became the first Black reporter ever shortlisted.
In 2023, Nadine released her debut documentary, Barrel Children: The Families Windrush Left Behind, which became one of the UK’s top box-office documentaries that year.
Through Black Current News, Nadine continues the work she has carried throughout her career: telling the stories that shape Black Britain and ensuring they are recorded with accuracy, integrity and care.
