Why Black Current?

Because the current isn’t neutral - and neither are we.

Black Current News exists to spotlight news and narratives that centre Black British experiences, challenge erasure and document the truth with integrity. Our mission is to inform, amplify and archive - reporting what matters now, while preserving our stories for the future.

Who’s runs Black Current?

Black Current News is led by Nadine White - a multi-award-winning journalist, cultural archivist and filmmaker. Named by Glamour and The Guardian as one of the most influential Black Britons of her generation, Nadine made history as Britain’s first Race Correspondent at The Independent and has spent over a decade breaking stories that shape national conversations.

Her journalism has exposed racism at the heart of institutions, prompted debate in the UK Parliament, and illuminated the rich, complex experiences within marginalised communities - from joy and resistance to identity, heritage and everything in between.

A former Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree, Nadine’s work has been recognised by the British Journalism Awards, Amnesty International and the Paul Foot Awards - where she was the first Black reporter ever shortlisted.

In 2023, she released her debut documentary Barrel Children: The Families Windrush Left Behind, which became a UK box-office hit. A year later, she became the first woman to win the Menelik Shabazz Legacy Award for filmmaking, solidifying her status as a trailblazer in British media.

Nadine built Black Current to inform, amplify and archive - with the same fearless energy she’s brought to every newsroom she’s entered.
