Diane Abbott and Bell Ribeiro-Addy feature on cover of Black Current News launch magazine
"These ladies are two of the nation’s most prominent politicians and their work reflects the ethos behind the platform," founder Nadine White said
Diane Abbott and Bell Ribeiro-Addy will feature on the cover of Black Current News’ first print edition.
The issue brings together interviews, reporting and commentary exploring the political, cultural and social issues shaping Black Britain today.
Since launching as a digital platform, the publication has focused on covering stories often overlooked by mainstream media while amplifying perspectives from across Black communities in Britain and the diaspora.
Nadine White, award-winning journalist and founder of Black Current News, said:
“Featuring Diane Abbott and Bell Ribeiro-Addy on the cover feels entirely fitting for our first print edition.
“These women are two of the nation’s most prominent politicians and their work reflects the ethos behind the platform, which is about documenting the realities, challenges and feats across Black British society.
“At a time when thoughtful conversations around race, identity, belonging and Black culture can sometimes feel in short supply, the role of an independent Black press in reporting on these issues with care and clarity remains incredibly important.”
The move into print represents a significant milestone for the platform, bringing its journalism into a collectable physical format.
Since launching in October 2025, Black Current News has grown quickly, recording a 4,720% increase in subscribers over the past five months and establishing itself as a leading Black news platform in Britain.
The platform publishes reporting, commentary and interviews, alongside a weekly news round-up examining the political, cultural and social issues shaping Black Britain and the wider diaspora.
Its reporting has been cited by broadcasters, including Sky News, while the platform’s launch was profiled by journalism.co.uk.
The announcement intentionally coincides with International Women’s Day, a global moment recognising the long struggle for women’s equality and liberation.
First marked in 1911, when more than a million people attended rallies across Europe, the day has since grown into an international movement celebrating the collective contributions of women around the world.
This year’s theme, Give to Gain, emphasises the importance of generosity and collaboration in advancing progress.
Black Current News’ inaugural print edition arrives as part of that wider tradition of recognising women shaping public life and political debate today.
Ms Abbott made history in 1987 when she became the first Black woman elected to the UK Parliament and now serves as the Mother of the House, the longest continuously serving female MP.
Ms Ribeiro-Addy, the Labour MP for Clapham and Brixton Hill, has established herself as a prominent parliamentary voice on issues including racial justice, migration and economic inequality. She chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Afrikan Reparations.
This is the two MPs’ first shared magazine cover.
The publication will feature:
• Political interviews and analysis
• Commentary on media and representation
• Features exploring Black British culture and identity
• Perspectives on the global Black diaspora
Pre-orders can now be made via the Black Current News shop, with a limited first print run available.
The issue is scheduled for release in Summer 2026.
