A six-year-old in Croydon called Pearl has been honoured after calmly calling 999 when her mum collapsed with a life-threatening brain bleed. Emergency crews said her quick thinking and clear instructions helped save her mother’s life, with the child later saying she acted “because I really love my mum”.
Brixton Plaza traders win High Court fight to stop eviction

A group of 27 independent traders have secured an injunction blocking their eviction to make way for a supermarket. Through representation by Leigh Day, the ruling means they can continue trading for now, as a legal battle over their tenancy rights continues.
UK to introduce anti-racism training for midwives amid Black maternal health crisis

New national principles will require universities to embed anti-racism and bias awareness into midwifery training across the UK. It comes as Black women remain three times more likely to die during pregnancy or shortly after childbirth compared to white women.
Britain’s first Black ballerina has historic shoes restored on TV
Trailblazing dancer Julie Felix has had her pointe shoes restored decades after being excluded from a London ballet company due to racism. The shoes date back to her first professional solo; she went on to build a career in the US before returning to teach in the UK.

TikTok star Khadejah Sutherland, 26, dies after documenting stage four cancer journey
Khadejah, a popular TikTok creator who documented her cancer journey, has died aged 26 after being hospitalised. Swipe left for a statement from her team.
The Birmingham native had been living with stage four cancer since 22, which spread from her breasts to her liver and stomach.
She recently fell seriously ill after a trip to Japan and was flown back to the UK, later sharing that doctors found internal bleeding and urgent surgery was needed.
Her journey drew huge support, raising over £21,000, with many now paying tribute to her honesty and strength.
